Yesterday I lost my grandfather (in-law). A man I loved. When I married my husband, The Major, nearly 9 years ago he was a Captain in the Air Force JAG corps. At our wedding I met his grandfather my husband affectionately called "Gunny."
Gunny loved the Lord and his country. He served in the Marines and will be among the greatest Patriots I will probably ever know. He called my husband always by his rank...so at first it was "Captain" and later "Major." He was so unbelievably proud of his grandson, my husband.
The first time I met him I instantly loved his smile and his energy. His wife, Joann (we call "GG"), had the most hospitable and warm quality. Both of them were and are deeply spiritual and able to communicate their love for the Lord so well. During their first visit to our house during our first Easter married and I was smitten with them both.
Over the years they celebrated our victories and helped us pray through our defeats. He has had such a special place in our hearts.
Yesterday morning, after several years of suffering from a rare disease, he passed into eternity. The first thought I had was how sad that I was that my husband was a few hours away from seeing him before he passed. The second thought was how excited I know he is right now to be with His Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Gunny, I already miss you. Your legacy will continue for generations. We will love you from earth to heaven.
